hi guys, i recently ordered a y-pipe from mid-america. it is the stainless one with no precats. when we put it on the car it did not line up at all with the converter. it is almost two inches off. has anybody else had this problem? what should i do? dave

Yes, same problem couple of years ago. No fit, could not make it fit. Could have fabbed up a mount but it would have shifted the converter too close into the ZF for me. So I put on a Walker, fit perfect.
Some folks have no fit problem with that Y and others have a fit problem. The problem with the one I got was the offset was wrong, it has to go a couple of inches to the drivers side (IIRC), the MAD SS pipe (which is not SS) was almost perfectly straight. I sent it back full refund not questions.
The Walker fits perfect, but I don't think it's a quality pipe. Lousy bends.

Mine fit perfect. Are they different for various applications?
Good Question, don't know but might explain why some don't fit. Actally I thought it was that the ZF required a different pipe, but had another poster with a ZF and it fit. My parts manual shows the same pipe for 700R4 (4L60) and ZF.
Personally have come to the conclusion that it's just manufacturing problems, sometimes they get it right, sometimes they get it wrong.
Mine certainly was SS.
Well, that's what I ordered, that's what the packing slip said, and that's what the box said. However I've never seen Stainless Steel you could stick a magnet to, and it held real well! I guess there must be "grades".
You are correct in suspecting that there are various grades of stainless. Not quite as many as carbon and alloy steels, (hundreds) but many. (~30) In any event, the austenetic grades (300 series) are non magnetic. The ferretic grades (400 series) are magnetic, and will readily oxidize in the atmosphere. The polished grades that you see are almost exclusively Type 304.
i ordered it around 3 months ago. i was installing it at a friends high performance shop. he suggested we take it to an exhaust shop and they could adjust the bends on a machine. i will probably go this week and see if that is possible. thanks for the help and i will let you guys know how it went. dave

I have the MAD 2 1/2" SS Y-pipe; MAD says it is 409 SS. It needed a little tweak up front to match the exhaust manifolds (think turkey wishbone); the rear exit pipe had a slight offset, but the Random Tech catcon was such a sloppy fit that it didn't matter.
I've had it on a year now; it turned a lovely shade of brown, but not really bad looking...almost a polished brown...
