I checked with NHRA if I wanted to run in Stock class, my Vette would fall into either of the following classes..
At 3420 Lb I would fall into E/Stock Automatic... The index is 12.00 So I'd have to run 12.00 at 3400 lb, & the motor would have to be STOCK.. no 1.6 RR, no head work , only thing I could change is the cam, the lift would have to remain the same, but the duration could change..
D/SA index is 11.85 but I could drop the weight to 3250 lb..
As tough as it is for me to run 12.4s I dont think I'll be running NHRA Stock class anytime soon :(
to John,
when I looked up your combo. it looks like you will be in D/SA with a wt. of 3,257.00 w/ driver.or you can run E/SA @3,420.00 lbs.
w/ driver. thanks Rick
JP, remember the E/SA national record is 10.72 at 122.19.
Now I'm curious what kind of car ran a 10.72 STOCK.
A 97 Camaro !! Its about as stock as a Pro Mod.. Legally it is stock, the heads are stock etc.. but its been balanced, & blueprinted, & those Stockers run with about 2.5 qts of oil..
Of course there is a hellova lot of suspension work done.. it probably has a 4500+ converter, and a lot of gear !!
I think the A/S record is 9.93 .. it is held by a STOCK Hemi Dodge
Don't they allow a 3 angle valve job.... if yes, and that coupled with 30" tire, 4500+ stall, and some very deep gears plus the right cam within spec, I'm betting you can easily run below your index. Look at Wheelsup, he's broke into the 10's with a motor right around 450 hp or so.... you're currently probably 120 hp shy of that, but with a few small modifications within the rulebook plus open exhaust (Which I think they allow)
you should be able to be within a solid second of his However, this wouldn't be a set-up you would want to drive on the street for longer than 10 minutes.
I think the real question is how far under your index do you have to run to actually be competitive..... I'm not sure what it is in those classes.

Re: If I ran NHRA Stock class (Beach Bum)
I'm planning on running some of the NED1 Stock/Super Stock bracket raceing events this summer. The only changes i have to make to the car is to go back to the 48mm TB and the 10" Hooser tires and remove the exhaust. Unless your planning on running at a national event if it looks OK and meets the safety rules your'll be OK.

Beach
Todd, If my index was 12.00, & I could run 11.60 in ANY weather I would be just as competitive as a car that ran 1.5 under the index, because you dial in, but MUST dial at least your index..12.00, however the problems arise if you have to race another car in your class.. then its a Heads Up... & there is where I'd be DOA..
I think most stockers run about .07-1.1 seconds under their index (i'm sure their are exceptions. At a big event you'd have to qualify in the top 128 based on Et vs index. That is usually NOT a problem unless you're at a national event in pomona or indy (not sure about etown) where they draw over 128 stockers. If you qualified, you'd be ok cause it would be bracket racing, unless you got paired up with a another car in your class (d, e, f /stock are all pretty popular too). then its heads up, no breakout. What exactly are you thinking?????????????
I think I'll just keep all of my posts to  or  or :smash:
Then by keeping my mouth shut, I'll avoid getting  to 99% of my "Dumb" posts...
I'll try only to post if it has a poll, then I dont have to show my stupidity, I can just click on the pick I want to vote on,, & no one will know how really  dumb I am.... :(
Maybe I can go to the Rice forum...and talk about R Types.. or the Mustang forum where most of the members are more on my D- level of racing knowledge..
As someone already mentioned,if you want to compete in the S/SS classes you would need tall tires and gears.Plus,a 4500-5500 stall converter. However,
I just don't think the D44 will serve you well.DO you ever wonder why you do not see C4's running NHRA Stock classes?
I will go to 29.5 tall tire,when I make a engine change.
When is the NED S/SS event. Its at Etown ...right?

At the risk of sounding stupid  I know Camaros are allowed to run Ford rear ends. However I don't know if you can do that to a Vette also.. .The Camaro & Ford 9" are both the same type, & NHRA permits you to use a Ford for the strength, also it would have NO effect on your ET if you were running a Ford or Chevy.. BUT that is a case where both are the same type..
I don't know about NED, & where or when they run...Mackey I'm sure will know,,he was very active in that... albeit a few years ago...
In the older Vettes that didn't have IRS they could also run a Ford 9".. but I dont know about the newer ones.. If NHRA will permit going from IRS to a Ford rear..
There are several items that NHRA will let you run from a different car, if its a safety matter or reliability issue... & the item has NO effect on ET..
Example going from a Chevy rear to a Ford Rear.. it wont matter what brand your running because a 4.10 is still a 4.10 no matter who made it..

Phil, thes are Ned S/SS type bracket races , I know they hold them at E-town, Acto, Maple Grove and they may run them at other Ned tracks. The big thing with them is they only get average 60 cars and the payout is very good but you know the type of competition your up against.
I thing it would be fun for Panuzzo and I to get back to our roots.
