Default Leaking from radiator...

I seem to be leaking from the radiator under the car. I first niticed it on the weekend. Its stoped one day and then started up today again. Dont know exactly where it is leakinf from and the fluid that is coming out is pretty clear and smells like coolant. Is there any way to fix this other than a new radiator?

You are a 96 so you have the Red/Orange Dexcool coolant. Smells the same as any AF.

Only way to find it is to just look. Put while papers under the area and try and see the exact spot. Then try and trace the source which can go hill and dale trying to find a spot to drip from! Or you could borrow a pressure tester from the autoparts store, if they do that.

Best to fix as quickly as possible with DexCool in the system, that stuff does not seem to like air in the system.

Good Luck,

Pete

Check the rad on the passenger side. Stand on that side. You'll see a small opening on the front side. Have someone rev the engine high adn look for water leak up high there. Many seem to crack at that location. But your hand in there and check for water also.

Leaking AT the bottom doesn't mean it's leaking FROM the bottom. First thing I'd do is check all hoses entering and leaving the radiator to make sure they're in good shape, not leaking, and that the clamps are tight.

Then I'd check the drain fowl. Passenger side of the radiator, at the bottom, up inside a indented area. Make sure it's tight and not leaking. You may have to get a new one.

If everything is OK, then and only then might I pull the radiator...but I'd try some stop leak first. :) Good Luck

I had a leak that I thought was coming from the radiator or water pump. Had my dad check it out, and he looked, and it took him about 30 seconds to find the leak. It was in the thermostat housing. Just might want to check there before you pay $$$ (It only leaked when it sat for a couple of days btw).

You can try stop leak if you want but I would not.
