I have one of those G-techs, I don't have a drag strip near me so how accurate are they? If I do a few runs on a certain piece of road and then do some mods and do some more runs will it be close? Or are they all over the place? Has anybody used one at the drag strip and compared the times between the G-tech and the real track numbers? i read a magazine article and it sade it was within .1 to .2 seconds but the magazine may have been paid to say that.
I have this stretch of road in front of my business and I used a gps to check the elevation and it is within a few feet all the way down the road for about a mile. I was thinking about doing this with the g-tech I have, I havn't used it for about 10 years(the g-tech). When I put a few catalogue mods on my crossfire.
G-tech before mods on crossfire 15.5.
mods:
ads chip
180 stat
underdrive pulleys
splitfire plugs- don't say anything
8.8 mm accel wires
accel cap & rotor
K&N
G-tech after mods 15.1.
correct for elevation 14.57
the improvement was more than likely due to the fresh tune up parts.
Now my tpi I would like to do the same but do these G-techs work or are they BS?

This is what I've read about them.
At the track they seem to be very accurate.
Why i think is because the track is nice and level , as well as straight
If use them else where try to use it in the same place all the time. Choose a place thats level and straight. And it should be close.
I tried mine in several places a couple of years ago but did not match my actual times at the track. It was about .6 -.8 of a second off....just use common sense with it. Don't take it as a dead on accurate reading. Just close but should give you an idea.
There was a test in a car magazine (I can't remeber but I think it was Car and Driver) and they tested them to be fairly accurate. They all had their advantages but were pretty close to each other.
I don't know. It wasn't my phone (unfortunately). Dynolicious (sp?) is an application that you buy and down load into your I phone. Not sure "where" you get it or find it, but it was an amazing "toy" as well as an accurate and amazing "tool". You could use it for track days to measure and analyze your own performance. Very neat. I want one.
I have a G-tech but I like the stopwatch method too (as it takes out the launch in terms of determining your improvement.)
You go, say drive in 3rd gear at 2k RPM. Start the stopwatch when you nail it, stop it at say 6k RPM. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Average the time. Then go make your changes, go to the same stretch of road, repeat it all again. If the time was less (and you either correct or do it when temps are the same) it will tell you if you made a difference, not if you got better at launching. If you light up the tires in 3rd gear... who cares you are doing good!
Thanks for your input on this. Tell me more about this iphone deal and the blackberry thing. I have neither of these devices. What is the better one to get? Christmas is coming and I need to add it to my list. All I have is a cell phone that I bought back in mid 90's, it was one of the first ones to text, I think I need to upgrade. The stupid cell phone won't die, my modo is don't replace it if it isn't broken. I think I should back over it by accident.
I have the old black one with the red display. My suction cups are not sticking to the window. Where could I get some to replace them? Is there some suction cup warehouse or something? Maybe radio shack? I have never seen them sold just as suction cups.
