Hi
Just bought a '90 2-owner convertible. The previous owner said that the radio "doesn't work".
Original unit w cd player.
Power on - display reads "1.00" doesn't look like a radio station number.
antenna doesn't go up. no controls have an impact on the display. doesn't make a sound
Anyone have any ideas? Look like a big job to get it out from behind the dash.

My knowlage when it comes to Bose. Take everything that says "bose" on it and throw it in the trash. You will be doing yourself a favor. Buy a new sound system. Took me 17 years to throw my bose in the trash. My new stero has provided much more enjoyable sounding music.

I'm in the minority here, but I do not agree. Yes, the system does have failures and it obviously won't sound quite as good as current systems, but I think the stock system sounds just fine (the one in the '90-'96 C4's & if its working correctly). Keeping the stock appearance in nice too.
I doubt your head unit is locked. If it was, it would display "LOC", not "1.00".
Sounds like your head-unit may not have a good connection to the remote radio box or "CDM" (which in a '90 should be under the passenger dash & yes it is a real pain to get to it) or maybe the CDM is not getting power. You could check the connectors at the head-unit and at the CDM and make sure all the pins are connecting and aren't pushed back or anything. There is also a relay that can go bad.
I just replaced the CDM in my 90. It wasn't as bad as I was led to believe. Just take your time. I have replaced all of the speaker amps over the past 4 years. I replaced them in pairs (both fronts or both rears) at the same time. I have a good used amp relay and a new one if you need it. It is located just above your right knee on the drivers side. I would go there first because I believe it supplies power to the antenna and the amps. You might get lucky. I used Dr. Don to repair my tuner and cd player about 4 years ago. Still works great. If you go to his internet site I think he has instructions for replacing each part of this system. Good luck.
I'm afraid that I have a Frankenstein system. The stock Delco Gold cd, radio, cassette with aftermarket speakers.
I'm not sure if the original speakers are still there. Do you have front speakers in both front footwells underneath carpeted enclosures? Each toward the outside of the footwell, along the outside rails like under your calves when you're driving. Halfway between the pedals and the seats.
