Gurgling on post-WOT deceleration... your thoughts???
Hey gearheads, now that we've agreed this sound is common among LT1's, what makes it happen???
First, the car's stats:
'93 LT1 6spd w/ 33k miles.
Recently bought, and assume all critical engine components are factory original.
The symptoms:
This is most apparent from deceleration from 1st & 2nd gear high in the rev's, but is also happening a bit less evident in neutral while revving the engine. For example, say I were to start from a stop and accel through first gear to 5k rpm's and then were to let off the pedal so that the engine decelerated the car... What's happening is the exhaust seems to gurgle. Geez, I don't know how better to describe this sound effect. The car seems to idle okay, but the only other related symptom is that acceleration seems a bit slower out of the hole than other LT1's I've driven.
Re: Gurgling on post-WOT deceleration... your thoughts??? (No Ordinary 91)
you should take the mufflers and cats off that gurgle turns into a RUMBLE :jester
well, I've got the mufflers and rear y-pipe off, almost a rumble. Definite loud pops. I believe it is unburned hydrocarbons(my fancy word of the day-sorry) / fuel hitting the hot catalytic substrate and combusting. Engine braking does this too.
Does anyone know if engine braking stresses the motor too much, or is completely un-necessary(excluding big rigs)?
