Default Accel vs. Edelbrock baseplate, round 2

Ok. Everybody on thirdgen.org is screaming that the edelbrock and accel are 99.44% the same. Everybody here seems to heavily favor the accel. I've seen people say that the stock baseplate has a runner diameter of 1.47", and the accel is 1.77". I just had a buddy measure his edelbrock, and his informal measurement was 1.75". Is there something about the edelbrock that makes it so inferior to the accel, or is it all the same like thirdgen.org's gurus say?

I bought the edelbrock and AS&M runners. You may want to do a search on this site and will find a lot of old discussion. As I recall, various statements were made abouts size, port matching and such. Well, the edelbrocks are the size you state, and I was matching them to a set of AFR190 heads. I've got some pictures of the before and after, matched up to felpro gaskets. Don't know about the accels, but the edellbrocks were NOT matched. Like I said, I do have pictures, and if I knew how to post them, I would. If you would like, I could email them to you, but will have to find them first. I also learned why everyone says to use felpro gaskets. In haste and not willing to wait for delivery I went an bought "the other brand, and man were they "garbage". I am VERY happy I didn't use them to do my porting. Also, if you are not going with large runners, don't waste your time. Some say the could port out the stock manifold quite a bit, but looking as the limited material, don't think you could do tool much. On the edelbrocks, there was plenty of material. Depending upon where you are going with the engine, many use minirams and such, which are more money, but can achieve somewhat higher rpm. If someone could post you pictures of an untouched accel manifold, you could decide for yourself based on what you see. Send me an email to remind me and I will hunt down the pictures tomorrow or the next day.
