how can tell if my tranny locks-up or not? I cant feel anny kind of "gear change" feeling you all talk about.. And when I change to OD mode, It just shift in to OD and drops RPM like it should, but i cant feel a "lock-up" here either..
If you take off from a stop in OD you should feel 4 shifts. The lock up isn't as pronounced a shift as a regular gear shift so you should barely feel it.
so how should it "feel". I know that when shifting to OD, the tranny drops RPM. But should it drop in RPM once more when the lock up goes on? How does it work??

Watch your tach. If you are cruising in OD at about 50 mph keeping your right foot on the accelerator, and you use your left foot to lightly push on the brake (not enough to apply the brakes, but enough to actuate the torque convert clutch switch), you should see the tach increase about 200 rpm. When you leave off the brake, the TCC should lockup again and the tach should drop back about 200 rpm.
Try driving at a steady 60 mph in OD then note your tac... then give it the gas VERY lightly, (like you had an egg between your foot & the gas pedel) the rpm should not rev up quick, it should sort of lug, (just like a stick car)
Then give it the gas about 1/2 way, see if the tac jumps about 200 rpm..
Then if it does.. you know your converter WAS locked & unlocked when you gave it 1/2 gas..
This also should work in D, but for it to lock, your speed MUST be over app 45 mph.. (55 to be safe)
.. I tried to give gas at 60mph in OD. The tac jump around 150rpm and then start pulling. SO I gues it whas in lock up mode.
BUT it feels like the tranny goes in lock up mode at once when i put in OD. Should it not wait a wile before it lock ups in OD?
If you are in D and then shift to OD it will depend on what your speed is and how much of the throttle you have down. From what you describe it sounds normal to me.
OK, call it a blonde day or sleep deprivation or something, but I'm confused. Are they supposed to lock up or are they not supposed to lock up? What does it do or prevent?
NO! My car will lock up at 46 mph no matter if I'm in D or OD.. however I must be steady on the gas, if I try to accelerate it will unlock..
If I am floored it will go from 1st to 2nd, then to 3rd & never lock, I never kept it floored long enough for it to shift to OD while the gas is floored..
I have read that our transmissions WILL lock up in 2, 3 (D) or 4th (od) however mine has never locked in 2nd I've had it lock in D if I am cruising at 50+ mph... but with your converter it is easy to tell if your converter is locked or not..
Just put it in OD take it to 60 mph & just let off the gas..if it is LOCKED, the RPM SHOULD NOT DROP... but as soon as you "tap" the break, you should see your rpm drop 500 rpm.. because of your high stall converter, whereas a car with a stock converter the RPM will only drop 150 rpm because there is not much slippage in the stock converter..
