Take a look at the chain that connects the servo to the cable,it can get bunched up causing the chain to shorten and this will cause the high idle.This happened to an 84 I owned years ago except I was driving the car,not a fun experience.The servo is either on the left above the battery or if its an early car it would be down in the left well in the front bumper,at least this is what Ive seen in early diagrams.

I went & checked the chain, All looks good there... I had it happen to me when I was driving the car as well & Not a good thing for sure.. Little scary actually..
Any other things I could check to see what is causing this?
