To get my timing gear cover off I just loosened the pan so it is about 1/2" off the motor. How likely is it that I can reuse the gasket? I think the gasket is about 1 1/2 years old.
Usually it's best to always replace gaskets, but it really depends on what kind of condition that one is in. If it were me, I'd try reusing it as long as it came off in one piece and looks ok.
Is it a cork or Silicone gasket? If its Cork, it wasn't really usable before it was put in, its junk now. If its silicone, just go ahead and reuse it, since its recrushable, it will reseal.
Cork is about as reuseable as toilet paper! I personal just change them all and put in a new one why take the chance, they are usually on a couple of bucks anyway.

Toilet paper is not reusable??? I will have to remember that.
I would just change the gasket to be on the safe side. Better safe than sorry.
