Driver's window gets stuck only when all the way down. Otherwise works just fine. Has become unstuck in the past when it happens. Did a search and problem said to be binding ribbon. Agree or other ideas?
Thanks.
Came back up after sitting for an hour, as in the past. I'm travelling now so won't get back to the FSM for a few days. Don't know if it's the ribbon or scissors mechanisms for the '88 without the FSM. Someone suggests putting in a stop (piece of wood) to prevent the window from going all the way down.
My '88 vert uses the scissor-type mechanism, and a spot weld broke loose between two parts. Rewelding the parts fixed my problem. It would not roll up or down, and would only stay up with something wedged and holding it inside the door. Ugly driving without a door panel...
The '88 does not have the old Ribbon style...as mentioned it is the Scissor.
If it sits and cools off and then works after an hours time, maybe the motor is shot.
Remember, when the window reaches the top or bottom, a voltage spike stops the motor before it breaks the glass.....
And for $100 I'd order a new regulator.......it's an hour to swap the regulator. Those of us that had to retrofit our Ribbon with the Scissors were all able to perform the job in about an hour......and we had to drill holes using a template.
A straight swap couldn't take more than an hour using screwdriver and a socket set.
0-10 scale......since you have to remove the Door Panel.....I'd give this one a 3
^I'd just think it is the fact that the Motor is 100 years old.....
I saw in another thread where the Motor was put in with special rivets and the clearance between that Motor and the window is such that finding a replacement fastener was nearly impossible ( I know it is out there but unless you have a inside track on fasteners, the normal DIY guy won't find one)
The guy.....I think....resolved and spent the $100 bones for a new scissor regulator........I think....
Being pragmatic, The regulator is easily sourced (thepartsladi) tearing apart the regulator and fixing whatever it is may still cost $50 (Ya' know, Gas, time, little chingaderas....)
Just pull the CC and have the Regulator delivered to your house.
I'm a cheap bastard, so me saying that is sorta against my nature. I just saw what that other guy was going through and remembering that he never really found an answer......
