Default Another removing ABS thread

Hey there have been a few threads on this but none have mentioned what to do about the holes for the sensors. Should I make a small plate to cover up the ABS sensor hole in the spindle?

Also, are you able to use a less expensive wheel bearing since ABS is eliminated?

I made some aluminum covers for the ABS wheel sensors.

Finding a metric tee to join the brake lines was difficult. I found a union easy enough. I'm still learning threshold braking without ABS so no real news there. Here is a pic of the lines together:

In the future I plan to rerun new lines instead of keeping the hairball where the ABS pump was.

I think you could use 84/85 bearings since they had no ABS. Dont know about the less expensive part.

I have a few saved and looked them over. It just looks like a simple flat piece of steel with a hole drilled in it and a bolt pushed through. They could be easily made.

Yea, easy for you! This is what I figured. I'm sure I can find some handy person out here to knock me up a few of these. Thanks for the reply.

Ray, you can find real plate nuts at any surplus aircraft store.
Look them up in your local phone directory.
They come in 1/16" to one inch diameter. They are all fine thread, US, not metric.

Thanks for that, Chris. I'll have to see if they have anything like that around me here in the UK. At least I now what they are called!

Little update: v710's leave some serious black marks when they skid!

Removing the ABS system took off 20 pounds of weight from the drivers side.

I know this is an old thread, but I am going through this now with my car. I know Andrew said he had a hard time finding a metric tee so I thought I would post a link to the one I got to help others in the same boat.

Hello I'm a new member to the forum and considering doing a by pass in my 86 coupe. You mentioned that you going rerun new lines to your ABS bypass, I would be interested in seeing photos if you have made that revision.

I still haven't gotten to fix that rats nest. It has been working fine and is on the list for work when I do a fuel cell.

Hi everyone, I hope this question isn't too off topic but I thought the ABS also acted like a proportioning valve (or maybe it is year specific I don't know). Do you lose this feature or are you installing an adjustable proportioning valve?

Thats pretty cool. You Vette is a racer, How about cutting those two mop buckets off, and "extend" the cargo area?

Digging up an old thread here but I am in the process of doing this to my 1991. I ordered the metric tee but there is a need for another adapter going into the tee as there are five lines. Where have you guys sourced this?

Hello Bagpype: I have done this bypass and you only need 2 tee's. Will attach a pic of the ABS system, look at the lower right sketch,#15 & 16 go into a tee one line is plugged, you can do that with a bleeder bolt.
#12' 13 & 14 go into a tee. Look at the top sketch for a description of each brake line.

86, I love you for that diagram and the information! Thank you thank you thank you!! I lucked out and found a wrecked c4 locally and bought a new used pump for $100! I ordered the tee so if anyone needs one in Atlanta, let me know..

Thats a damn good price if its in working condition, most of the ones I've seen are an average of $350, I am hesitate to get one because they are all used and u don't know if you're going to end up with the same problem or not.

Nobody rebuilds those systems as far as I have seen, will keep mine, maybe there is someone out there that can refurbish these units!
Good luck with yours, hope it works out ok.
