Default New low temp fan switch dont work???

Hello all,

I have a 1984 vette/ crossfire

I just ordered a new Low temp fan switch from corvette central,
fan suppose to come on at 195 off at 180,

I just swapped switches & it don't seem to work like it suppose too.

Swapped the switches, refilled system & fan is not coming on at all.. Temp hit 212 degrees fan nver came on..

Did I miss something here?

Or did I get a bad switch?

If I ground the wire that goes to the switch, The fan comes right on...

Whats the deal?

Any help would be appreciated

Tanks for any replies

Does the sending unit have a good ground to the engine block? Maybe too much sealer preventing the switch from getting a good ground

Maybe I should not have used the tape on the threads...

Theres your problem. I have good luck with a small amount of the paste type sealer. Sorry but your gonna have to do the job again.
You try grounding the switch housing using a piece of wire to check it before you rip it back out.
Most of those switches come with a red sealer already applied

I've never used sealant on those senders and never had one leak.

I have never had a problem using tape; the threads cut through it and make good contact.
Do you have a DVM?
I would be confirming the switch is good by dropping it in boiling water and see if it actually works at the correct temp ( if at all )

Im having the same issue at the moment.. I have purchased two different senders (stock replacement temp on and off) but when they trip in boiling water.. they show a resistance value of 33k ohms.. not a complete ground is this right? maybe it isn't enough to trigger the relay? if i ground the wire from the switch the fan comes on no problem.

Now i did have the teflon tape on it.. I may try that without it.. (of course its now in the single digits here now.. )

I put a new one in my 87 a couple years ago. It only lasted 2 weeks. Now I just let the ECM take care of it.

When you try it without the tape please let me know your results..
I will probably have to do the same,

But for now I just grounded the wire, So the fan is running constant.. I don't like it this way,...

I can't return this switch either can I?

Well If this switch does not work when I pull off the tape, I am returning it....
