Default Cheap, easy performance for my 94 C4??

I have a 1994 6-speed Corvette. All I have done is the Billy Boat exhaust, open air lid, coolant bypass, plugged the hole for the vacuum hose on the fuel pressure regulator, threw away the airfoil the car came with , and thats pretty much it. I plan on removing the resonator and putting either straight pipes or some sort of h or x pipe this coming week. I know you guys especially the ones who have had thier cars for a very long time know of cheap easy so called secrets to increasing horsepower. So if anybody has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. By the way is the Hypertech programmer a worth while investment?

I would probably put that back on, LT1s are pretty pissy when it comes to fuel pressure. Until you start racking up more mods the stock FP and FPR will be more then enough.

lol I read about this mod in a ecklers catalog. As a matter of fact i was looking at a video I have of me racing a 04 Mustang GT and on my shift into second a puff of black smoke came out the rear. Thats due to the car running rich right? What could be the causes for that?

Thats due to running rich.

The vacuum placed on the FPR keeps fuel pressure trimmed down in relation to engine load/RPM (all based off manifold vacuum). When you pull the vacuum hose off of the FPR it runs full pressure, all the time.

You should see no difference at WOT by plugging the vacuum port on the regulator. I'd imagine your day to day mileage is probably pretty bad unless the computer was able to adjust for the increase in fuel pressure. Under WOT, the vacuum goes to 0 so you are basically telling the regulator that you're under WOT at all times and thus providing way more fuel pressure than needed for closed loop operation.

A set of 1.6 full roller rockers would give you a decent upgrade and not be too terribly expensive if you can do your own work. Hopefully your valve springs are in good shape. Next step would be long tube headers. I would save the $$ for the Hypertech and find someone to dyno-tune after the roller rockers and headers.

Well in that case I will be putting back the vacuum hose today, what your saying does make sense. I was thinking about getting the LT4 Hotcam Kit...would that be a good start?

on the vacuum for FPR....

As for hotcam kit being good start depends on what your goals are....

If money was an issue I'd start with performance valve springs, high quality NSA 1.6 roller rockers, pushrods and guideplates. Then I'd get ported heads and a custom hairy cam.......Longtube headers and a quality tune vice canned tuner.

well im not sure. i just want to make some more power but dont want to go crazy with it. I do have a nitrous kit for the car that I havent installed yet. Im more than likely going to put a 100 shot. So my idea was the LT4 Hotcam Kit with some Longtubes, a tune and the nitrous.

I think you must have meant to say if money was NOT and issue. The suggestions ayou have made are good but all add up to big $$$. The op is looking for big bang for little $$$.

However, that doesn't have to be limited to performance... if it's vette... it'll be pricey.
