I put on lowering bolts about a few months ago. When I had the car in the shop the other day I was gunna have the rear wheels alligned because the tires were toed in . He said he couldnt do it with the current bolt because they would put to much stress on the rear end all together. He said that the shock were already compressed to much and that there were signs of stress already on the back of the car. He pointed out some bushings and such that were worn. He also said that the big bow spring in the back was being stressed to much and that it was not ment for that. So if he was to try and allign the back wheels he would be putting stress more on the back. He said that when he was test driving the car it was all over the raod when it was hitting pot holes and suck...which I agree it does do that. He said he felt the car was unsafe and that if I brought the stock bolts back he couls allign it right. I like the way it is lowered no, so I gess my question is is there any way I can avoid the old bolts...Is he just plain wrong an feeding me a line of BS? I know the bolts for lowering are adjustable...so couldnt he just ajust them? I need to get the alignment done bad and he says that he can do all the wheels for 85$. I didnt want to pass that up.
I'd go someplace else, besides $85 for a 4 wheel alignment isn't really a good deal. Mine acted like yours after I put the bolts in to lower the car. It also made the rear wheels squat out. I had the alignment, staightened the stance of the rear and all handling issues went away. I can't speak for the other things and the condition of your car, but the lowering bolts are not the problem.
I would stay far away from that alignment shop. That guy has no idea what's under the rear end of your C4. The lowering "spring bolts" you installed are simply longer than stock, usually one inch longer and allow you to raise or lower the rear by increasing the tension on them or loosing them which drops the rear. The installation of them may put less stress on the spring instead of more. In any case it will change the camber on the rear and that is adusted by the eccentric bolts on the strut rods where they connect to the rear end housing. Toe is usually affected when you lower the car also.
