Default opinions please

hey guys I have a small noise coming from front of engine after cam swap(lt-4)sound is hard to describe other than to say it sounded like a pulley or noisy alternator until I removed belt and revealed noise is coming from front of engine.Noise is not one that would make you run to shut engine off but is present.I am thinking water pump gear but not sure.I used GM. extreme duty timing set.car has 70,000 and water pump gear looked perfect so I reused it.could this noise be the new cam gear getting to know the old water pump gear, and is it possible for them to survive together and just make a little noise???(I know this is probrbly wishful thinking) butnoise just doesn't seem to be grinding or tearing anything up.so I dont want to be too quick to just start tearing front of engine back down disturbing the nicely sealed oil pan, front cover water pump seal ect.if it may not be needed.any help is greatly appreciated
