For reasons I'm too embarassed to go into, I need to replace my throttle body. I have a 52mm BBK and didn't do the initial installation myself. I know this is a stupid question, but I have a question about the gasket. Do I need to use a silicone gasket sealer? If so, does it need to go on both sides of the gasket? What kind of sealer would be best?
I've never heard of using any sealer on the TB, just dry gaskets.
BTW, if you actually have to replace the TB, the Holley unit is very pretty. Just a little on the steep side, unless you know somebody who gets 30% off.
You might want to put some antiseaze on those bolts which hold the bottom of the TB on - the part where the water goes through. ~Juliet
For that matter, anytime steel bolts or anything threaded (like spark plugs, sensor bushings, etc.) is screwed into aluminum, use anti-seize. Over time, the metal bolt will weld itself to the aluminum and you'll catch he** breaking it loose.
Just left a friends house and he had to replace his aluminum intake manifold because a thermostat housing bolt broke off when he was trying to remove it and in trying to get the broken bolt out and retap the hole, the manifold cracked.
I read about that happening and I've seen it happen before, so a word to the wise . . .
Re: Throttle Body Installation... (Nathan Plemons)
Thanks everyone, appreciate the help. I'll pick up a gasket this week. Good tip on the anti seize stuff!

Just in case I might - just might :) - be interested, you know anyone who might provide that 30% off option?
Out of curiousity too, when looking at the original TB and the new one side by side, the intakes etc seem to be cut a little different. Is this normal? I have pictures around here somewhere I will try to post later to illustrate what I mean, but it almost looks to be a different design...I am assured that it is the correct model, but it did strike me as weird...
