Default Plug wires and plug questions, first time buying them.

I want to buy spark plug wires and plugs, cap, rotor. I have checked on past postings and want MSD wires. Everyone says Delco is a no-no. Found wires on the forum mall at LA Performance. MSD LT1 Spark Plug wire set, $89.99.
Wonder if these are for my car? Vin # is: 1G1YY2385L5105593
Also I am not looking to be a "super dooper street racer" just want good wires, and etc. to provide good dependability and some nice performance. Any brand suggestions would be helpful, if not even part numbers. Don't want to create electical problems when I do the tune-up. Runs great now, but the parts look old and want to do the preventative on the baby. Thanks for the help in advance.

If your looking for MSD Superconductors, $80 is way to much! They can be bought for much less. Call Chris K at Speeddemon Motorsports. The link to their website is on the right.

I would go with the MSD's or Magnecore wires.

Hmm, if I remember right, isn't the LT1 engine code "p", which isn't in your VIN number. I see by your profile that your car is a 90, meaning you have the L98 engine, so these are not the right wires for you. The distributor ends are made for the optispark distributor, which your motor does not have.

The MSD wires are very nice, NGK plugs are very good as well. For an LT1 you want to use NGK TR55 plugs, I'm not sure about the L98.

If you have a L98 here is the setup:
HyperTech coil/cap/rotor
MSD 8.5mm or TPIS 8mm wires
AC Delco plugs, cut-back electrodes (on my site), gapped to .045"

You'll get a little power gain (~10hp) and a nudge in economy from the cleaner charge burn.

BTW, check out the prices at Summit.

Sorry gang,
The Vette is a 1990.
I wasn't sure exactly what model I have. I must have the L98 engine.
That's why I posted my VIN.
Thanks loads, off to shop! :seeya

everyone has a plug oppinion, bosch {my fav unless you have No2} ac, ngk etc...they all work. taylor makes a nice cheap wire i've been using, the spiro-pro at $40/set from summit. also replacing the coil isn't a bad idea either. summit makes a 40k volt hei coil that's really cheap or you could use a brand name. basically from what i know, coils are all made pretty similar

I am using TPIS wires and Bosch platinum plugs(NOT the plus 4's). NGK plugs work well too. I have had 2 sets and they both were trouble free. Bosch platinum plus 4 plugs did not work well for me,low speed miss/cold miss/surge.

Something I'd like to try if I had the money would be the NOLOGY wires. I've heard from a few engine builders that at the last automotive product show in Indianapolis, they did a demonstration of the spark, compared to Taylor's and MSD's. One of the builders I talked to said that the Nology spark was so bright that it actually scared them. Said it was the difference in night and day. Only thing, they're VERY expensive (around $200) a set.

I'm running the OEM plugs and OEM red LT4 PLUG WIRES.

They work OK for me.
