Default L98 Water Pump Swapout

My manuals (both FSM and Chilton) say that you remove the A/C compressor to get to the water pump.

Someone say it isn't so, please?

Correct
A/c compressor goes on one of the bolts that hold WP so it has to come off.
BUT
You leave the hoses attached and just hang it over the wheel well out of the way

Default Ahhhh

That's what I'm accustomed to doing, but the Chilton and FSM made it seem like you need to go have the refrigerant (R12) safely removed at an A/C shop. That implies a lot more work and expense.

Thanks

I've read it is a good idea to put something under the compressor if you can so the compressor itself is sitting on something. Vs. being held up by the lines. I've heard you can get a leak if the compressor is hanging by the lines.

If I remember correctly. I believe I used a piece of wood.
