Modified engines measured fuel mileage vs displayed average mpg
My engine has a few mods and my displayed average MPG usually is within a tenth or two of the actual milage [ Manual calculation (miles on tripmeter/ gallons pumped)=mpg ]
How accurate is you average MPG display?

Ive noticed it can be changed in some definition files but not others. I have an ARAP/ 6E bin and cant find a way to change the inj constant for the MPH readout but when I read the 32 bin on my old Hypertech chip there was a seperate constant for it.

Just ensure you don't run out of gas.

And back to the topic. It may be hard to believe. But I purchased my 94 in July of 1994, and have never filled the gas tank to be able to check the mileage. I've just always relied on the DIC reading.

I just had to look this info up, actually. For anyone looking for the info on changing the fuel mileage computer to accommodate different injectors check out this old thread.
With LS1 take-offs (26 or 28lbers, I can't remember) in my otherwise stock 90 L98 I was able to get the displayed mileage to within .3-.5 of the measured. Unfortunately, I had to revert back to the stock tune (more/less) and my tuning computer blew up so I lost all my notes. Right now it's off by 3-5mpg.
