Hey guys got a question. I have been running a flowmaster catback for around 4 years now and I love them, BUT now with the mods I have accumulated it has gotten to the point that I feel bad for my neighbors when I roll in at 2AM on a Saturday night. It has started to really resonate at idle! I vibrate everything within 300ft it seems. And before you say anything I do care what my neighbors think.
I am looking for a set of mufflers that are not bad at idle but can roar at WOT. I would like 3" but will look at 2 1/2". So let me know what you think.... Anyone on here running a 383 that fits that description?? I am leaning towards the power effects right now but would like to hear what people think, also where is the best prices on any of the mufflers you list.
I have heard good things regarding Corsa for the later C4's. My choice, however, will be Power Effects. I also care about how much noise my neighbors have to withstand from me... I don't know about you but some of my neighbors seem like the type that if I **** them off they will find a way to "get even"... so I try not to rub the furr backwards to much if you know what I mean  :D
I'm running (or at least used to) eliminators. Put new Corsas on today (just need to make a final check on fit/alignment).
Don't mind sounding off for the neighbors (well, maybe a little) but got tired of riding by myself. The wife didn't care for the resonance of the elims and the Corsas are a gift to her ;)
Already cranked them up in the garage and I think the sound is going to be just right :D
I recommend Borla Xr1 cat back series. With the resonator they are quiet at idle; ive heard it on a 383cid. My friend was upset that it was too quiet that he bypassed the resonator and it sounded mean.
Do you have a picture handy of what your Autopower roll bar installation looks like? A good 4-point is going to be my next mod and I'm trying to get a feel for how it looks installed. Thanks,
I know exactly what you're talkin' about man. My neighbors have complained to me.. two came over once when I came in around 10pm and right after I got out I noticed they were standing at my garage door. They asked me to please not rev my engine late at night. I just said sorry and closed the garage. I wasn't even going to mention that it was just IDLING!!!! If I wanted to get them pissed, I could rev it up to 4k or so some night at 3am :jester :jester :jester They'd come out with shotguns probably.
I put my Corsa on in my driveway using jackstands. The car doesn't have to be very high, just high enough so that you can get under it and do a little maneuvering. Have a friend or two help, it will make the job a lot easier.
I love my Corsa. I am running a stock engine with full length headers and no cats. It roars at WOT but is very quiet at idle and cruise. The pipes are only 2.5" but I don't think it would hurt you.
someone on the forum runs "Warlock" mufflers(I'm racking my brain-can't remember who). On those, for track days, you unscrew bypass block off plates. For Daily driving, you keep 'em on. I am not sure about the sound levels tho.....sorry.....
Do you have a lift that you used to install your Corsa's?
I'm also wanting to install a set of these and I'm wondering if I get
the Vette high enough to do this myself in my garage.
Any detail you'd care to share on installing these would be appreciated!
Thanks,
-Jeff
No lift .... YET! Planning to eventually install one in my third bay which has high ceilings.
I used a pair of ramps that I've been using for years. They are metal and very sturdy but I do have to use a short section of 2 x 12 to keep from scraping when putting the front end up. I then jacked the rear up and used stands on both sides. Didn't take off any wheels. Car was high enough for me to maneuver underneath on my creeper.
Pretty much used standard tools and basically took my time. When I got tired, I let it rest awhile.
Followed the order of the instructions ... that seemed to work best. I did use my jack to provide "support" for the center muffler as I guided that section into place. I found it very handy to get the center section connected to the hangers before attempting to add the rear pipes/mufflers. I didn't tighten anything until I started the final alignment.
I think an assistant to hold/guide things at certain points of installation would be helpful, but I did the whole thing without any help.
Took a lot of pictures but haven't had time to post them yet. Sorry ... but will try to get them up soon.
When you lift the rear, do you have to raise it one side at a time and put the
stands in?
Or can the whole rear end be lifted at once using a floor jack?
I saw a post from someone that said they lifted the whole front end at once
using a floor jack under the front frame cross member. It'd be nice if the rear
end could be lifted this way as well, since I'm sure the stands need to be extended as far as they will go and I'm a little worried that raising it that high from the side will put a lot twist on the frame.
