'89 Climate controls interchangability question

'89 Climate controls interchangability question
My '89 coupe has the automated climate controls which have proven to be a big pain in the butt. The heater only works when I have it set to 'Bi-Level', and the A/C & vent only work on 'Defrost' and 'Econ'.
I much prefer the old tried and true practice of setting my controls to 'Max', 'Cold' and manually twisting the fan **** to 'High' :D
My question is, are these two types of climate control panels interchangable? I figure if there are any extra connections required it would be for the automated controls, so retrofitting manual controls might actually be doable. If anyone's successfully interchannged these, let me know. Thanks!
