Default Help ASAP... windshield replacement in AZ!!!

I was curious to know if anyone would have a recommendation for the front windshield replacement in Arizona that will accept insurance (AAA).

Someone with first-hand experience on having their C4 windshield replaced in the Phoenix, AZ area, thanks!

Local members with a recommendation can also call/text me 602/618/8154

Whoever you use. Make sure they know what they are doing and can get the retainers and windshield trim removed without tearing it up. You probably will have to replace the weatherstripping. And make sure you get good glass. Windshields on the C4's can be expensive to replace.

you're telling me man! that's the reason why I want to make sure someone replaces the glass that knows exactly what they are doing. This is exactly why I need someone that's had first-hand experience with a c4 windshield...

Yup, thats a good idea. I'd still double check whoever did it though. In the mean time, it might not hurt to call around the windshield install shops to see if any of them have ever done a C4 install before.

But if someone can recommend you someone that knows C4 windshields, then I'd definitely check them out.

Just curious, is this an insurance claim, or out of pocket?

I'd go get an insurance quote for a complete windshield replacement. Which means glass, windshield trim, weatherstrip retainers, weatherstripping, labor, etc. all OEM. Get the money. Then get someone who can do it with only having to replace the glass and maybe the weatherstripping.

Ok- Chevy's and Vette's of Tempe, AZ actually got a hold of me early this morning for windshield replacement. They referred me to their outside source that has A TON of corvette experience.

For the parties that are interested in a reputable Arizona vendor for c4 (and other corvette) winshield replacement call...

Sun Valley Auto Glass
Bob-owner
480-722-1885

He uses GM weatherstripping were applicable, name-brand glass, and uses a sealer on the windshield frame after removing the old glass. I'll keep everyone posted on the results.

***** Sun Valley Auto Glass is also AAA approved*****

I replaced the windshield weatherstripping along with the trim that holds the weatherstripping in place. Those trim pieces alone cost me $775 & this is with me doing the work myself & with my shop discount on partsI can tell you that those trim pieces are very fragile(bend & twist easily).Post the cost of this replacement,I bet if the trim pieces are replaced that the total will be around $2000.Plus it will let us other c4 owners know how much it costs if our windshield ever needs replacement

Well, at this point I would have to agree with Mike. I am not interested in pulling a fast one on my insurance company OR trying to pocket money on this deal. I just want the job done right with the correct (quality) parts!

i'll keep you guys posted. This is the vendor that the local (exclusive) corvette dealer uses (CNV of Tempe, AZ). He did mention that he would be replacing several items (not just the windshield). Although I'm not completely sure how extensive he is going to get with the replacement. I have never had a windshield replaced, so I'm not sure if a list of items replaced and a total will be provided to me from the glass guy. Of course, as stated earlier, I'll post my response on the completed work.

Thats the way it works around here. At least for minor repairs. You get a quote, and the insurance pays you. Then you go get it fixed.

If the guy tears the trim up, you wouldn't want to go back to the insurance company to try and get more money. Might as well get it up front. And if the guy is able to save the trim, then you don't have to buy the trim.

Let us know what all he replaces. If he replaces all the parts with OEM parts, and pays list price. Then that is $2k just in parts. But I'm sure he can get them below list price.

Im an insurance agent and I have 1989 convertible
always request OEM Glass It fits the best and you get no leakage or windnoise
In the east we use Glass America
should have full glass coverage without deductible for repair

GOOD LUCK

ALLSTATE covered the replacement on the 86 I use to own. One phone call and a guy showed up and did it in my driveway. All I had to do was sign my name indicating I was satisfied with the work. Zero $$.

Is Glass America the OEM glass? I have heard of alot of people here going with PPG. I've got a PPG glass on mine.

On my full coverage. If I have to replace the windshield, then I'm out what ever deductible I have. I know in some states, the insurance can't charge you a deductible for a windshield replacement.

That sure would be nice. In my state, you have to pay your deductible for a windshield. So alot of times, a windshield replacement is cheaper than your deductible. So most don't even file a claim for windshield replacement. Though a C4 is different. I did read of someone getting their windshield replaced and it was $1.5k. But I have also read of someone getting it done for $300. But you have to watch out for those cheap windshield installs on a C4. Don't want to have to go around and fix leaks afterwards, or get rust in the frame cause the windshield isn't installed correctly.

and the results are in-

Given the fact that I talked to this guy on the phone at about 10:00am in the morning and he showed up and installed about 2 hours later, I'd say it was a job VERY well done!

Here is what I can tell was done-

He used GENUINE GM weatherstripping around the frame of the windshield and used GM approved glass, he also took care in making sure he sealed any scratches that could have been caused by the removal of the old glass. The alignment is perfect, and the job was very well done. With that said, he DID re-use my existing trim pieces (the metal trim that actually surrounds the windshield). I think if I had provided him with more time to source the needed parts he probably would have replaced that too. In this particular situation, I'm kind of strapped for time, Bill (ZFdoc.com) is doing some final details, we are running it to the alignment shop tomorrow, and I take off for California Saturday! So I was insistant that I needed this job done ASAP.

the trim pieces (even though they are reused) look to be in good shape (he took great care removing them). I am pleased with the job and $0 out of pocket cost. I would definitely recommend Bob to the local C4 owners!

By the way no invoice was left, but I can certainly call him tomorrow to see what all was, in fact, replaced.
