Default Need help jacking rear for u-joint replacement!

Hey C4 brothers, I have my '86 up on my quiklift and I was trying to jack the rear tires off the lift so I can remove the half shafts to replace the u-joints. I started out using a 6 ton jack on the jack support that the quiklift has(see photo) but the rear of the car wanted to move over because I was off center on the carrier. So I put a floor jack with a 4x4 block approximate 18" long and tried to use that along with the 6 ton. I placed the 4x4 between the 2 exhaust pipes right in the center of the fiberglass leaf springs. But as soon as the tires started coming off the lift the car wanted to move again. I made sure that everything was centered the best I could but I don't feel safe with this method.

Has anybody ever attempted to lift the rear while the car is on a quiklift? I have attached a couple of photos that will hopefully give you an idea of my sitiuation...........thanks

Just use the pinched part of the frame in front of your rear tires.

Jack up one side, and not that I recommend this.....but I use the lower Shock mount and lift one side and place a jack stand under the pinched part of the frame.....then go to the other side and repeat.

Not sure what you mean by the car is moving.....

You will probably thank me later - remove the exhaust from behind the cat back.
Find a good flat spot on the diff to jack up the rear from the quicklift.
Use jackstands to support the car.

^^You know, I started to do that...in order to get the D36 out this time without dropping the whole exhaust.....but those four bolts were stuck solid......solid I tell ya....

I am going to my exhaust shop to get those things broken loose and then put some anti-seize on them

The Frame that I am referring to is right next to where your Rocker panels end and the underside start.

You'll see where SMC stops and Metal starts.......then the frame turns inward toward the differential...that's the spot....it is not a nice flat area....it is a thin piece of metal or a rail if you will.

I know to put the jack stands on the pinch welds in front of the rear tires. But does anyone know of where else you can put the jack other than the stock jacking points?

My stock jacking points gets a couple a gashes in it from my jack. Next time, I may just try putting a block of wood on top of the jack to see if that help with it denting in the stock jacking point.

Get a couple used hockey pucks and put them on the table on your jack, and you won't damage your jacking points.

What about a piece of wood? I've heard people having problems with the hockey pucks cracking on them.

I'm trying to jack the rear so I can put the car in neutral to check half shaft U joints and hubs.
