If you rebuild it with a strengthening bushing and other goodies they can handle 700hp.

How high is the sky?

Too vague of a question to provide any kind of answer.
How much can they handle new in 86?
How much can they handle with 200,000 miles?
How much can they be built to handle?

Help us help you by providing specific info.

Its been rebuilt already, only have about less than 400 miles on the tranny. Supposedly the guy who rebuilt it for me put 88 model gears in it.

The gears are the same in 88 as 86. If it was a stock rebuild, 350hp or so is about it, as the 3-4 clutchpack and sprag are weak in that year.
