Well I spent some more time on the '84 tearing down the engine compartment. I am amazed how dirty it is in there, gonna have to give the whole engine compartment a liberal spritzing of simple green. Maybe I'll be a little more eager to show it off once I spruce it up a little bit
Went pretty well pulled the power steering pump:
Pulled the AC pump and condensor:
And finally got the lid off the intake:
I'm thinking next time I ought to be able to get the water pump, and the intake...maybe the heads if I feel ambitious
I'm just going through the top end. I've ported a set of '113 heads and ported out a spare crossfire intake, so I'll be installing those. I also plan to put some 1.6 roller rockers and a shiny new comp cams retro roller cam in there, I'm looking at the XFI 268 grind. Some long tube headers and dual exhaust to finish it off. I'll also be doing some general clean up as well.
I have the same setup, I was thinking of porting the intake as well, I have heard
it would make a big difference, If I just do the intake, Would I notice a difference in the performance or would I have to do the heads as well? I am looking for a set of the shorty headers right now as I have the exhaust off my car..

Ant....
This was one of those snowball projects. Started with just wanting to port the intake to free up a few ponies. Then I figured well might want to throw some headers on there to help it breathe, of course if you want to breathe better you need better heads, then cam and yada yada yada here I am. So to answer your question, no I don't think you need to do the heads, but every little bit helps.
I haven't got a lot of experience in this porting business but I've done enough research to be pretty confident in doing it myself. I'm happy to share what I learn as I go. So good luck with your own ride!
Are you doing rings & bearings to?
I would think you would have too.. I have heard lots of stories when peeps do the top end & not the lower & does'nt last long..
Is that a stroker motor? Pistons look like my KB 135's.
Nope, its a stock L83

ALso what kind of work you doing to the heads?
Ant....
I haven't heard anything like that, I'm just doing the top end. The heads are getting new valves, springs, seals, and a pocket port and polish.
Musta been overhauled I guess. Pistons don't look stock.
I don't know Pete, I've heard these pistons are supposed to have the trough, as opposed to the valve depressions, if that's what you're referring to. But I've never had this thing apart before so I really don't know.
