I started my Vette up the other day, a few days after an oil change I did, and it made a unusual noise that I cannot explain (clunk/thump type). As it warmed up at idle to 180degrees the noise went away. Today I started it up and it sounded fine, but the tranny was making a higher pitch noise only in neutral. I let the car sit and run in 20 degree F weather and the transmission got up to 206 degrees F sitting there in park. Is this right? I think the clutch converter may be going???
She is my daily driver but school is out and the roads are salty so I havent driven her. Maybe Im just being paranoid because I like my car too much and dont want anything to go wrong. I dont know...
What weight oil did you use? did you fill your filter with oil during the oil change? Did you run it after the change? What im getting at is your motor may have had all of it's oil in the pan and in very cold weather it takes a minute to get it flowing again. Thats only a guess if it didn't do it before and nothing else had changed. It's usualy more of a rattle sound than a thumping on cold weather starts.
I used mobile 1 5w30 and did not put oil in the filter... I ran it for about 10 min after the oil change.. I had no oil pressure for 3 sec on startup after the oil change then it jumped back to full pressure... The oil pressure reading was normal the other day when I started it, but there was not much oil getting to the top end (by rocker arms) when I took off the oil cap to check it was almost dry until the engine warmed up...
