My 95 LT1 FSM recommends GM4718M engine oil, but doesn't mention GM6094M, are any of you guys using the 6094? it is way easier to find.

The GM 4718M standard was developed for the Mobil-1 synthetic oil when the LT1 motor debuted in 1992. The GM 6094M standard is an updated version and oils meeting that standard will work fine in the LTx and LSx motors. The current Mobil-1 containers should have both standards shown on the label.

a source of continuing debate and I can find evidence of this in a weird way. The non-Z-51 newer vettes don't have an oil cooler so the spec is probably as much for those cars as the z51's or z06's etc.

on the other hand, if you watch the CD that comes with your C6 owners manual, they show the gold top premium M1 oil bottle in their video as the recommended 5w-30 (even though this oil only shows the 6094M spec).

I went ahead and used the cheaper 5w-30 with the high temp 4718M spec since I have no need to use 10w-30 or thicker where I live.

Actually GM4718M is what you should use - "Service Fill". GM6094M is a "Factory Fill" Standard Engine Oil - it's not as good as the GM4718M specification. I think that's used more fore "brake in" of the engine.

Here is a link listing all oils whith the GM-specifications.: http://www.gm.com/corporate/responsi...ngine_oils.pdf

In Europ Mobile is recommending different Mobil 1 oils for Corvettes. The Mobile 1 New Life 0W-40 is recommeded for C5 Z06 and all C6 Corvettes. It has a slightly higer viscosity and is more fit when engine is heavy loaded.

Ok need some info
can someone with oil knowledge explain this to us.

mobile 1 10w-30 has GM6094m (I have this in my vette now)
mobile 1 5w -30 has 6094m and 4718M
Mobile 1 5w -30 truck and suv has 6049m only (use in my P/u)
valvoline syn has 4718 M only (stoped using)

what is the diference
I used the valvoline in my truck and it started using oil so I just went back to Mobile 1
