Default Nitrous Mastermind Assistance Please.....

Hello.. I have a dilema with the nitrous mastermind i have incorporated into my car.. it is wanting to rev limit the engine at half the set value on the controller... i set it at 6500... and it comes in at 3250 rpm...i set it to 10,000 rpm it interupts spark at 5000 rpm.. anyone who has wired a nitrous master mind on an LT1? i do not have specific wiring schematics for the LT motor.. but figure #19 in the manual is very close... i am also using an MSD 6a for my aftermarket ignition...if anyone has had similar experience or knows a solution or at least a different direction to approach the issue from i would appreciate it greatly!!!

thanks all,
Chris

I assume this setup has some sort of input for the tach signal. I also know that the factory tach goes crazy when you hook up an MSD unless you bypass the tach filter.

Where are you getting the tach signal from? The car's stock wiring, or directly from the MSD. I would try it directly from the MSD box and see if it works any better. Or Vice Versa if you already are trying it from there.

Not knowing anything about any of this, I would just start with RPM related sources. Hope it helps some, or if you already tried it or knew it, just ignore me. :yesnod:

Nathan,
Thanks for such a quick reply... i was wondering about that.. i suppose i need to go back through it and tryi picking the tach input up from before the MSD box.. although everything else i have seen shows it being connected straight to the MSD.. i wonder if our cars are different.. i will give it a shot.. the MSD on both mine and my fathers LT4 were fine and did not affect the tach operation on a side note.. im not sure how things will play out here.. but i am pretty frustrated right now... ugh :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash:

So you have it connected directly to the MSD now and it doesn't work? Strange. It's usually a good signal to use a window switch or shift light from.

Looks like the mastermind thinks you have a 4 cylinder car. :D

scorp.. i thought the same thing.... and the problem is that Jacobs is in the middle of a move right now to Laurenburg, NC, and their tech lines are all down.. ugh!!! i may pull the LT and slip a RICE motor in there.. maybe then this unit will work properly.. just need to up the pills to about 600 to stay asbout the same power making level.. anyone have a 4 banger they feel like donating? lol thanks again guys and look forward to your replies. :smash:

unfortunately the rpm is the key to making everything operate correctly on this component.. i suppose i am at the mercy of Jacobs Electronics to finish their move and set up their tech line again.. if anyone else has any suggestions im certainly open to them!!

thanks,
chris

A member from the LT1 Edit forum mention that on B-Bodies the tach signal is the same as a 4 cylinder motor..... can anyone confirm the same for our cars? and is this from the PCM? i tapped the negative/green wire from the coil as the MSD schematic instructed and same as the mastermind on the drawing above... would this give me a 4 cylinder tach reading? i would think at this juncture it would be 8 cylinder considering your primarily in the heart of the ignition. let me know what you guys think.

I bought a mastermind and sent it back. They are junk. From what I have read and heard, one in 3 have problems. Send it back and pay the extra for the NOS controller. Well worth the money as everyone I know using them loves it.

BTW, I did not have a problem running the mastermind rev limiter using the tach output on the MSD box.

Vette92,
I am under the same impression right now.. unfortunately i purchased this item off of Ebay and refuse to distribute it back out into circulation.. unfair to the unsuspecting.. i am sad that someone out there would dupe me on it as well.. if you know somehting is not right then say so.. what goeas around comes around and im not gonna send any bad carma around from my way.. i will probably get a nother mastermind from Jacobs.. they are moving from texas to north carolina and are going to be located only an hour frpom me so if i have any problem i will take the component there and sit and watch them tell me there is nothing wrong with it... i suppose that would be the best way to resolve this issue.. but thanks to all of you with your replies!!!
