Default Help with headers

I am planning on installing headers on my 92 six speed car. Im not looking forward to any suprises so i want to ask few questions. This will be the first mod made to the car.
Will eliminating the emmisions crossover tube cause me any computer problems? What all do I have to take off to install? And of course what else to i need to know?

If you are getting rid of the AIR system, you will need to block off the port on the intake.
Do the headers have o2 bungs?
If so, you will need to go to heated o2's.
You will need to raise the front of the car atleast 12" to get the headers in and take off the valve covers, this made it easier for me to get to the back 2 bolts on each side.
I left my starter on, made it harder but I think once the headers were on, I did not have to deal with installing the starter.
You will need a heatshield to protect the brake booster.

Note: This would be an excellent time to change plugs and wires.

Use Mr. Gasket or comparable gaskets, most gaskets from the Mfg or cheap.

Your '92 LT1 should not have a crossover tube. EGR is self contained at rear of intake and doesn't need to be touched to install headers unlike L98.

If you buy headers without AIR provision you can just delete all the plumbing.
Depending on header brand you may have to make some custom spacers to sit the factory braces ( from A/c compressor and Alt ) in correct position

The type you buy will be directly related to the problems you have.

Look for thick continuous flanges, good access to mounting bolts, accessory brakets ***, pollution crap, and good tubing thickness.

SS or Ceramic coatings are a good idea.

I think you would be well served to contact Melrose and Exotic Muscle
There has been a load of good press on the Forum and it's good to have a human to talk too.

Accessory brackets can be a pain. A pain if you install, and a pain in the wallet if you have Joe Lug Wrench do it.

There are some folks that believe unless you are modifying your motor that the cost of headers should be minimized [ cosmetic ones for $300] because you aren't going the have the Hp increases to justify the cost.

Worth thinking about? Performance headers start in the $500 go straight up from there
