I've been needing new tires for my daily-driver 90 coupe for a while as the 275/40-17 Goodyear GS-C's were pretty threadbare and just about undriveable in the rain. I got a quote of $1,400 from the local Goodyear dealer to replace them, which didn't excite me too much. At the recommendation of a couple of fellow Vette-owner friends I checked out a local discount chain who quoted me an out-the-door price of $619 for a set of Dayton Daytona ZR's with a 40K warranty. Figured I had little to lose, so I bought a set on Friday. It rained the next day and these tires felt way better in the wet than the GS-C' s ever did, even when new. But the thing that I really noticed was that they are much, much quieter in the dry than the Goodyears. No more whine! I might be giving up some level of performance, but considering that most of my time is spent in traffic around town, these tires seem to be the ticket!

You may want to consider going with Falken tires, I have heard ALOT of really good things about them, one of the only Z-rated tires that come with a 30,000 mile tread life warranty, alot of people have actually laid down some of their best 60' times on them, and they are just over $100 each, and they have a 30 day ride trial period if you don't like them take them back and get your money back. I am going to put them up front when its time to get new tires, unfortunately they do not make 315's or I would put them on all around, and as an added bonus the tread pattern is really cool
:jester
For some reason, every rear tire I've ever heard of that was put on a Corvette is defective. How else do you explain that they always wear out before the fronts? One of life's mysteries.
basically, any tire is better than the Goodyear crap.
I'm not going to say Goodyear is a great tire, but I think a lot people say Goodyear is lousy because they are comparing a bald +20,000 used mile tire against their brand new just replaced tire. Of course the brand new tire is going to feel better.
If you want lots of miles go for the Michlein Pilots they're expensive but they go a long way. I just pulled a set off with 50K+ and a few K miles more to go. Granted that they weren't really stressed by the previous driver, but 50K on any tire is good.
I just went to Firestone Firehawks. At this point, all I can say is these are extremely quiet.
No matter what you decide, get a quote from TireRack, take that to your tire store. A lot will try to meet the price.
