I noticed my '92 appeared to be lower at the left rear than the right rear. So I measured the height at the outside left and outside right tail lights. I found that the car was 1 /2 " lower on the left side than the right (L/r 27" & R/r 27 1 /2")...I just finished replacing all 6 u-joints. I put it back together following the shop manual. the measurments at the front of the car shows no difference. (L/f & R/f = 27 1 /2") Is there something I missed or is this a common problem with the C-4?
My 92 always looks good and level. I've never actually measured it, but I've never felt like I had a reason to. Now I'm gonna have to go measure it, are you happy now?
My 92 looks the same way, I just figured after about 128000 miles, the suspension needs all the bushings replaced, but I haven't had time to do it yet.
To the middle of the outside driver's side taillight, 27 1/4 inches. Middle of the passenger side outside tail light 27 1/2 inches.
I measured from the ground to the wheel well. 27 1/2 driver's side, 28 passenger side. Like you the front checks out.
The way I figure it is this, either the driver's side suspension is softer because that's the side there is usually more weight on because of my overweight azz, OR I've heard another explanation. I've been told that it is done slightly off like that on purpose so that if you are driving on a crowned road, it seems level.
I don't know how much truth there is to that. I'll measure it again tomorrow and see if it's maybe just something about how the car happened to settle tonight. sometimes things change a lot by just moving the car.
Sorry Nathan, I didn't mean to make you unhappy... :) ..but I never noticed this before (and I bought the car new 10 yrs ago)..so I figured I screwed something up putting it back together..ie: castle nut on the rear spring to tight, or ?etc. All my grey hair is messing up my thought processes
My '87 was off by 3/4". It was higher on the right side. I would of thought if anything it would of been higher on the left side to compensate for a driver. She's level now. :)
My car was off by about 3/4" before I did the lowering job. Now it is level as it should be. I would say you could adjust the spring bolt, but you can't since it is castleated. Order the rear lowering kit and then you can adjust it any ol' way you see fit. :seeya
Yes, I did the u-joints last Dec. I haven't driven it much since then cause of the weather. I did a lot of cleaning while I had it appart. Could I have damamged the spring if I got some Simple Green on it?
One of the plant guys (Sonny Kilgo or Gordon Kildebrew) said that if you find one level, then they must have done something wrong. There was a post on it a couple months ago.
I'm glad that you all feel better, but my damn car is still off. Maybe I'll have a drink and that will make me feel better too.
Are you measuring from the body or the frame? It seems to me that my left quarter panel sits a little higher at the outer edge than the right panel does--just the way they're bonded on the car.
