Ok I've doubled up the gaskets. They are 3/16 give or take a few .001". So by adding the other gasket it gave me another 3/16 to play with. Which worked out great. There was no hitting by the adjusters. The bosses still hit a little. I will have to grind on those a little no big thing. I plan on going with the double gasket for now. I came up with a way to make them stay and seal. I think the covers I was looking at by B&B will clear the superram. I'm going to wait until I have the superram and then get the covers. Try it and see. The B&B covers are 5/16 taller only an 1/8 more than what the double gasket puts it at. I could not tell it had increased at all. Of course it's only 3/16
I put the two gaskets together using permatex #2. This worked very well. Had not problems with the gasket falling out. I didn't peratex in the cover just the two gaskets together.
I'm hopping I'm out of the woods this time. If not, Lee I' be e-mailing you to setup a time to get together if you can.
I found Carrol superchagring makes them but only for LT-1 covers, which I guess are different?
Carrol supercharging also sells a L-98 to LT_1 cover conversion kit for a nice price of like $195.00 Plus you still have to buy the covers, and the plate you mentioned. The riser plate is like $40-$60. I can buy a ton of gaskets for that.
Check out this web site (www.melroset-tops.com/race.htm).
They got some TALL covers that I think are second to none.
Valve cover material is thick (.25 inch), and the height is 4" from inside cover to head. Valve train 'noise' is nearly compromised when using these covers.
I don't know anything about AFR heads, whether they are perimeter bolt pattern heads, or center-bolt heads, but I can assure you they (Melrose) have a very good product, that I know could help you with all your concerns.
The reason I bring this up, is because I went your route, and eventually discovered that I wanted different rockers, and stud girdles too. That in its-self required another 7/8ths of an inch clearance. Someone in the forum turned me on to Melrose...man am I glad I read the forum.
For what it's worth to you, and anyone else who might read this post.
