A sort of knocking noise coming from the back end while driving. Usually not noticeable until about 30mph, but sometimes it's really quiet, and sometimes it's awfully loud. When it's loud, it's only loud for a short period of time.
Advance Auto Parts says they don't think it's the rear wheel bearings, because they'd make more of a howl than a clunk. So I think it's the U-Joints. Is there a guide for that around here?
Does it happen over rough roads or on any road? If the smoothness of the road makes a difference, could be exhaust; mufflers or tailpipe. If it clunks shifting between drive and reverse, it's a ujoint going out.

Road smoothness doesn't seem to matter. I'll have to check about shifting between drive and reverse, but I know shifting through the gears doesn't do anything. The sound will be going along, clunk-clunk-clunk, and the car will shift without affecting the sound.
