Default Brake Pad Recommendation

I would like to replace my brakes on my 89 coupe. I don't plan any road racing but would like better than stock performance for the street and good "spiritied" driving. The replace GM pads are expensive I feel for what you get, about $130 (front) from dealer. I can order Hawk HPS $105 or HPS plus $120. Are these better than stock pad performance. Other recomendations for pads without converting rotors or calipers and gaining performance?

Napa "Ceramix". They wear like Iron, are soft on rotors and do not dust. Absoloutly no squeal from these pads! They are expensive (about the same as other upgrade pads) but the lack of brake dust is a great benefit. (No butt busting wheel cleaning every week!) They really bite well. :yesnod:

I would look into the EBC's at TireRack!

Lots of good reviews for the Napa's lately. I myself put in the Hawk's. They work very well. Lots o' bite, but they dust!
goodluck. Also try a search thru the Archives for brake pads.

I've got EBC Green Stuff. They stop well, are quiet, kind to rotors but don't believe the advertising about dustless (or dust less). The do dust up quite a bit, but it does wash off very easily.

TireRack sells them for about $70-$80 a pair (4 pads).

Cheers,

Here's another vote for the NAPA Ceramix.
They are expensive, but for no dust, no squeal, good wear they are worth it.

They are not for Autocrossing but for everything else...

How about a set of Performance Friction Z Rated pads. Cost $120 for all four wheels with lifetime warranty from Autozone.

They do dust and they have squealed on occasion, but they work good on the track and on street and I'm installing another set for this years events for free. :)

Good Luck!

I agree with John Row on the EBC's. I have them front and rear and they do dust. I called EBC they said they shouldn't be dusting, they want me to pull them off. Sand the pads and rotors with 80 grit sand paper. My problem is all my brake hardware is brand new, got the GS brakes with the group purchase. I am going to take the brakes down, but I won't be doing any sanding. I'll be going down to NAPA and going the ceramic route. :mad

the EBCs do dust... but I never cared much about dirty pads... as long as they stopped correctly!

and the Greenstuff stop a-ok!
