I've purchased a Hurst shifter for my '96 LT4 6 speed. Can it be installed from the top after removing the console? Or will I have to drop the tranny?
If it can be installed from the top, can anyone give me some hints as to how to remove the console without damaging it? My shop manual states that the seats have to be removed to get to screws on the sides of the console.
Thanks for any help.
I just installed the Hurst on my 96 LT4 as well. The transmission can stay, but the exhaust needs to be dropped. Some have installed with the exhaust in place, but I went ahead and dropped it. The interior parts can be removed without the seats coming out. Don't know where that can from. The instructions that come with the shifter and my haynes and chilton manual were all the same. Remove the lid to the box then the shift ****. Remove the many screws that hold the panel around the shifter and it will lift off. Tip, be sure and put the rubber seal back on around the base of the shifter properly or you will get a lot of road noise.
