I want all new hardware on my L98 when I go to button it back up. The new timing cover came with all new bolts, and the ARP stud kit has the heads covered.
All that's left is the valve cover bolts, oil pan bolts/studs, water pump bolts, the bolts that hold the 2 accessory brackets to the block/heads. The Intake bolts, FI rail bolts, TPI bolts, you get the idea...
I know summit sells a "bolt kit" and it seems to have all sorts of bolts, but doesnt list where they all go. TPIS has a TPI kit, so that's covered.
Also, some bolts are not bolts, but actually studs, such as around the oil pan. Some bolts were longer, some were studs, some were pretty short...why?
Some of those bolts, like for the brackets are Vette specific. Intake bolts are L98 specific. Some can even be year specific. You will not find it all in a kit.
on the oil pan, the stud-nuts hold the knock sensor shield on the pan rail.
I think the front pan bolts, the larger ones were bolts, but the rear ones are on the 1 piece seal adapter.
I think I have a set of chrome rocker centerbolts I will have to get $10 for, and maybe $6
for shipping
I think someone had played with my engine before I got it...
I wonder if someone can post a pic of where all the wires, hoses, etc that run around the sides of the engine are routed and supported because I didnt have a knock sensor sheild, or coolant hose supprt straps Ive heard about, mine was basically all just kinda..there.
The second volume of the factory service manual will have a "component locator" that shows the pics of the location of various components on the electrical side and it will also show the routing of the major engine wiring harnesses and the harnesses throughout the car.
You should have a metal oil cooler line that bolts to the oil pan rail using up some of the studs. You need to find a knock sensor shield, and you have a 2 piece old school main seal, so no adapter. Make sure your oil cooler line is bolted up before you install the engine. Ask me how I know.
