Default C4 a4 to m6 swap ?

Hi

I'm considering buying a c4 but I really can't find a manual c4 ...all of them are auto ..

is it easy to swap the a4 to m6 ?

does the t56 transmission fits the '94-'96 c4 ?

is it easy to swap the lt1 to ls1 ?

what do you guys suggest ?? I found a '94 red c4 ..automatic ..the car is very clean and the guy asked $7K . is it worth the swap the auto to manual or I just leave it as it is ?

Most consider it better to buy the one you want rather than do the conversion

Plenty of LSX swaps into C4's been done.

I agree with rodj. Most people who buy this cars, including myself, talk about all this modifications we're going to do on our cars and never get around to it. Most of the time we realize the amount of money and work that's involved and decide otherwise due to practicallity. If I were to do it all over again, I would buy a newer zf6 car with LT engine. As it stands, I have an 87 auto z52 coupe and I was also planning on switching to manual. Now I'm also trying to make engine mods to get the engine to have LT power levels.

From what I've researched about the tranny swap, you're pretty much going to need a donor car for all the linkages and other miscellaneous parts besides the xmsn itself.

It's not hard, it all depends on your ability, but it is expensive.

The trans conversion is about $2000, then your rearend upgrade is going to cost you another $1500 to $2000.

you are better off finding and buying a 96 LT4.Look outside your area and wait untill the car you want becomes availible.I got an auto and wanted a stick.I would still like a stick but I found my car and it was clean so I bought it.My auto with the 3.07 gears performs very well,I'm happy

Is it doable, certainly.

I am putting both an LS1 and T56 in my formerly A4 84 C4.

However, I am gutting it and making it a street legal race car. If you want a street car I would keep searching for a factory M6 car. I would agree that a 96 LT4 M6 would be best choice in C4.

Also, C5s are getting cheap. Then you have an LS1 and T56 from the factory.

If you spend a couple thousand to convert A4 to M6, you will not get that money back.

To be honest after being waist deep in my LS1/T56 swap, it may have been better to buy a high mile C5... (but my car should be faster for the money when done...)

I think what we are trying to tell you is wait for the Vette that is right for you! It is expensive to modify Corvettes and it can also get complicated if parts dont match up properly, etc... I would try and look for a Vette that is stock with a 6-speed. Be patient and look around because they are out there! Good Luck!

Yes. I spent a year waiting and looking for manuals and wound up with a really well taken care of auto... but I truely wish I woulda waited to find a stick despite the lack of troubles I've had with mine.

Buying an automatic with the idea of converting it to a stick is like buying a really nice suit that you have to lose 20 lbs. to fit into. Doesn't really make sense.

I found a '96 LT4 6MT almost immediately after looking, on autotrader.com. Their search criteria allows you to limit the search to manual gearbox cars so you don't have to look at ads for slushbox cars. I had to fly 400 miles to go pick it up and then drive it home. No big deal.

And you had fun driving it home! Unfortunately, some don't have the luxury of getting the time off or the extra cash it takes to fly/hotel/food/gas.

Still agreed on finding the right car for you. Even a used 6spd ZF is going to run $1000. (lots of modifications needed to make the LS and T56 work.) Then you have to get the C beam, drive shaft, master and slave cylinder, pedal, flywheel, clutch, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, center console panel, rubber boot for under it. Don't forget the right gears for the diff. And after it's all said and done, you'll need to get it dyno tuned for another $500. You'll still have a stock powered engine! Why not, wait for 6spd (LT4 is a great idea) and spend all the cash and time on better heads/cam/headers/exhaust/tune?

Can't get any better than this!

Link to incredible deal on one of the best C4's, not to mention a better investment than any other C4
