I am hoping someone out there can help troubleshoot my airconditioner. 2 days ago, the car (35k mi.) threw the drivebelt,Not sure why, but after refitting it everything was fine for a day. The next day the aircon compressor won't start. I have checked 3 fuses that mention AC on the fuse box, all OK. If power is directly applied to the compressor, then the clutch engages and the second fan starts. It just seems a though no power is reaching the compressor. Any ideas? TIA
Did you run a test light at the compressor to see if it's seeing juice? Kinda sounds like when you threw your belt you knocked /broke a wire.....if you have a shop maunal, I'd check the wiring diagram for those that would have been exposed to the broken belt. : ;)
Thanks everyone. I think I may have sourced the problem, but won't know till Tuesday. I think the belt has knocked the pipes and the gas has got low.Apparently the system won't engage if there is no gas. A guy came out to top it up, but it turns out I have to have the gas converted to the new version, and the new dryer won't be in stock till Tues. Hopefully this is the problem and the fix Still don't know why it threw the belt though. The compressor apparently seems fine.
Check the tensioner pulley. When they start to lose tension, the belt can get enough slack to jump off the pulleys. My son replaced 2 belts on his 87 before we figured out the tensioner was bad. It actually would hold the belt snug on the pulleys when installed, but didn't have enough spring tension to keep the belt tight at higher RPMs.
