I fixed my cluster in my 86 myself. If it is the same problem try this. When you take the cluster out of the dash take it apart. There will be two circuit boards connected by I think it is 10 pins. Check the pins to see if one of them looks burnt at both ends of the connection. I can't remember which one of the pins it was but one of mine had broken loose from the board for what ever reason. All I had to do is soder the connection back and that fixed the problem. I think this is what happens to most of the dashes that just quit lighting up. Be careful not to damage one of the LCDs when you take it apart like I did though because those things aren't cheap and hard to find. I hope this solves your problem, but like I said this is what I had to do to mine, hard to diagnose yours without seeing it.
