700R4 differences

Are there major differences in 700R4 transmissions? The transmission in my vette went out and I saw one on craigs list for $50. I thought about buying it to take apart, clean and rebuild. If it is in rebuildable condition, rebuild it and use it in my 89 vette. Unfortunately, the seller doesn't have any info on it.
Some minor, some major. There were also many different calibration changes due to the vehicle it was going in. Do your homework before buying. Search this forum. There are many helpful posts in the archives.

Thanks Pete, I just found one of the posts. I should have looked harder/smarter. I think for the money, I'll buy it for no other reason than to see what I am getting myself into when I pull mine.
