I installed these dust shields from Ecklers a couple of weeks ago. Since they have been installed, I have noticed that hardly any dirt or dust has accumulated on my engine or in the engine bay. I highly recomend them, they are very good quality material. FYI
Re: Good Way to Keep Your Engine Clean (KYVette90)
KYVette,
I've got a set of them that I bought from Ecklers, but I havent been able to make them fit. They sent me two of the same exact pattern. Were yours like this?
Positive pressure shouldn't develop under the hood given the gaping holes everywhere, the radiator should flow about the same, but what worries me a little is that more air is exhausting under the car (bad at speed) and less is flowing through those literally stinking brakes. Both might be negligible for all I know.
I have a set of them on my '92 for about 4 yrs now (bought from MAD) ...the extra heat on the front brakes was solved by running a new front valence equipped with air holes ....ran 4" tubing from the airdam to the back of the calipers...this airdam and tubing is also sold by MAD....I lived at 5000' elevation in northen Cal...and the brakes stayed very cool in all the mountain driving / braking...hopes this helps...and no, I don't work for MAD :D
I don't know if they are the same for both sides or not, I would think you just flip one around and it should fit. And I really think you guys are worrying over nothing. They will not cause any heat problems. And unless you are racing your corvette you really don't need to be concerned with heat build up in your brakes. The holes they cover up were not designed for heat disipation.
Re: Good Way to Keep Your Engine Clean (KYVette90)
I'm leaving those off my list ... just my opinion, but I don't like sealing in the engine at all. I know that when my fans run, I can feel hot air being pushed out from through that area.. .I would think it would make a difference.
Instead of using the kit sold by the catalog guys, I'm going to Home Depot to buy a roll of regular window screen and cut to fit. That should help keep something out w/o trapping in the engine heat. If it works fine, if not then I know I only spent a few bucks to try it.
