Long story short. I got 1500 dollars to rebuild my motor. Keeping L98. Mega ported/slp runners, cam, heads and all forged internals. How much will it cost in parts to make the L98 a beast. No cheap way out.

1500 will get your machine work done only if you don't have to replace alot of internals just basically gets everything cleaned, mic'ed, pressure tested and reassembled

If you do your own labor, getting it out of a machine shop with hot tanking, boring, honing, hang the pistons on your old rods, install the cam bearings, surfacing your heads, gasket kit, $1800.
In addition, they guy was nice enough to check my valve spring pressures, pop clothes pins on the valves to keep them in the head in the correct location, hot tank the heads, give me new keepers, surface the heads for $40 each, and gave me a 20% discount off the resale price for anything else I needed. He sold me an oil pan for $12, new OEM timing cover for $10, and a ARP bolt kit that had the intake bolts pirated off the list for $25.
Establish a relationship with a machinist, and they can't help themselves, they will bend over backwards to help you out.
Plus, it's good for business when your project turns out good, and you brag about how much they did for you.
Then I got timing chain, different rocker covers, etc.
This guy has been in the business for over 40 years. He even owns 4 circle track cars and has 4 drivers and 5 other guys to help out on Race day.
He knows who's full of BS and who just wants a great engine, etc. I told him what I want, and he got it done.
I have had various projects in there, and they always jump to help.
Find a guy like that in your area, or send your stuff here.
