Default Third brake light installation

How difficult would it be to add the third brake light option to an 84 or 85 Vette? If one was purchased used, is there a logic sensor that needs to be bought also? Would I have to remove the whole wiring set up from the donor car?

Would just have to be wired into the brake power source. Shouldn't be to hard if you know your way around a cars electrical system.

i'm doing something opposite. i have a 90 coupe, and i'll be removing mine in favor of the convertible's bumper mounted style. i'm just planning on tapping into rear wiring harness.

I've seen a few that were done that way but the brake light blinks with the turn signal. I guess I'd have to find the brake light wire only if there is such a thing. That was my question about the logic sensor that eliminates the blinking problem.

damn - the turn signals! good point - wasn't thinking...

now, i'll probably run the existing wiring down to the rear bumper. (sorry for getting this OT)

just thought of another point - does the coupe and convertible share the same harness? if so, the coupe's existing harness may have a connector for the bumper mounted 3rd brake light. does anyone know?

I have a 85 with a 95 rear bumper.I wired mine in directly to the brake light switch by the brake pedal. It was easy, there are 2 wires at the switch, 1 is hot at all time, the other gets voltage when the pedal is pressed which is the one to tie into.

If I was to add a third brake light. I would connect 2 of the bulbs to each side. In fact I might even modify mine.

A lot harder but I would definitely do a separate circuit and wire to the third brake light. That third light has saved a many azz end of a car in front of me with a wiring problem. I believe that they come from the factory on a separate circuit for that reason.

I just got a third light in a deal and thats definitely how I am doing mine.
