Default Flywheel Weight - how much

Ok, so I am prepping an LT4 engine to swap in, and will be doing several maintenance items durning the swap. I will be replacing the clutch/flywheel/etc at this time, and will not be using a Dual Mass!

So, how light can I go? (Please, don't say aluminium, I autocross in NCCC, and aluminium flywheels are a no-no) I want to run a billet steel flywheel, and have notice all kinds of different weights. Recommendations? Warnings? (myths/wife's tales??)

Thanks-

I'm about to begin installation of a new clutch in my 96 LT4.

I'm using a SPEC Stage 3 plus clutch SC423YF and a SPEC billet steel flywheel.

The question is which flywheel should I use? I was shipped SC85S, which they list for LT1 F-body cars; while their catalogue lists SC05S as the flywheel for a 96 LT4 corvette. I have just emailed them on this point.

Not having seen an aluminum flyheel or minature circle track flywheel, I can say this is the lightest looking small block flywheel I've ever seen.

Don't have the clutch apart yet for a side by side comparison, but, depending on who you ask, it's supposed to be 8 to 12 pounds lighter than the stock dual mass flywheel. We'll see.

Out of curiosity, please post whatever you go with and let us know how it works out for you.

The DMF weighs about 38LBS as I remember. Have the GM F body Camaro LT1 flywheel with the Spec 3+ clutch in my 396. The Camaro flywheel weighs around 20 LBS. Not sure how much the Spec billet Flywheel weighs--probably close to the GM.

I'm assuming the Spec flywheel is already shaved as you have to shave the GM flywheel .020.
