Default Zf6 transmission question

Is there anything special that has to be done when changing out a zf6 black label trans and replacing it with a blue label, or is it just a direct replacement? I've heard from some there is no difference but just want to make sure. Thanks.

If you're talking about the ZR-1 application, they interchange but the torque capacity (and gear noise) is different. GM quieted the later ones.

I don't know about the L98 and LT1 applications.

I know the ZR-1 input shaft is different, and if memory serves the pilot bearing is different for Blue to Black tag transmissions.

So would the pilot bearing have to be changed on the LT1? If spline count is different on the input shaft would the clutch have to be changed too?

The collar that the throw-out bearing rides on is different. Black has a smaller diameter, blue is larger.

If you plan to run the same clutch, just swap out the collar.

If you plan to buy a new clutch, get a later model clutch with the larger inner diameter throw out bearing and the new trans will work just fine.

well you would have to get a new clutch anyway because it would have to have the corresponding spline count to the trans to be able to work.

All ZF6 input shaft is 26 spline.
