Ok I'm trying to design a workaround...
The Button in the shifter that turns OD off and on Is dead in my car therefore I need to know what type of switch it is, weather it be a toggle switch or just a push button. I knwo that it is designed as a pushbutton but I do not know the function of it weather it be just a one position switch (like a Keyboard Button) or a two position (Like a light switch).
All in all I want to come up with a way to completely control the Od unit as far as when I turn it off and on... Anyway any help you guys can offer is MUCH appriciated.

87 Convert L98 4+3
Nothin Special... Yet :reddevil
I just ordered 2 more of them yesterday as backups for my '87 also. The switch in your '87 is a momentary on switch unlike the 84-85E which had a on/off switch.
The part # at Newark is 61F753
Good luck! Once you see it, you will understand why it isn't all that easy to get another type to work.
p.s.
The only difference from what GM sells you and what Newark sells you is that GM's comes with the harness on it. You sound like you know what you are doing, so making two snips and a little bit of solder and glue will be easy to transfer it to a new switch. :)

I know what the solder is for...but what are you glueing??? Or using glue as insulation???
I just cut my old harness and crimped on spade connectors; same (other sex) on new switch, with scrap wires soldered on. Now I can quick-change my switches with minimum soldering.
The glue takes the pivot point off of the soldered joints and moves it down to the base of where you hot glued. I had used heat shrink tubing and thought it would be enoug, but wasn't. The constant shifting put push/pull stresses on the solder and snapped a wire off.
So... by covering the solder and the entire wires about 1/2" from the switch in hot glue, you prevent this plus add a really nice weatherproofing. :)
You guys have to be kidding me, I have the same exact problem, my switch is dead. I talked to my vette guy and he said that GM doesn't make the switch anymore, and he'd have to look for it elsewhere. He found it, but I cost $125!!! I thought, well gotta do what you gotta do so I told him to order it. (this was thursday) I'd hate it if he is hosin' me on this because I've been taking my vette to him ever since I've gotten it and he's been awesome.
BTW, Howcome you guys always happen to talk about the exact problems that I have, only just a day LATE!!! :D You're psychics or something...

Thanks Scorp for passing the word around it is important to secure the solder jiont they did not on the early cars and we had to replace a lot of them a hot glue gun works well for this.
He is hosing you. You can still order them from GM direct for $80 with the harness attached. Or the newark place for $11 w/o harness. :)
Oooo Exposed!!! I'm going to wait until I get the whole story on this one. I'm taking it in on Monday, since I have a myriad of other things he's working on so I'm not giong to sweat the switch...yet
It's just not said enough how much info is on this board :smash:

Scorp, I think maybe you meant that the 84/85E had an on/off rocker switch mounted on the console? For the late 85's they just moved the on/off switch to the shift ****. In 1986 they went to the momentary on switch in the shift ****.
I ordered some when Scorp did a couple of months ago.
If I recall, there's a minimum order orsomething that jacks up the
cost of one switch to around $20.
I'll sell one of mine for $14. The extra $3 is for the envelope and
postage. If it's under $2 to ship, I'll send a buck back.
Bob.
I can hardly sit down after getting the bill from my "no longer available from GM" switch job. And I was procrastinating for the longest time to get it done. Then I finally bring it in to get fixed, and the day before it's ready I read Scorp's post!!! I used up most of my tax refund on that.
Lesson learned, procrastinate MORE!!! Who needs money anyway...
