Shouldn't be. But you should not have the key in the ignition when installing the plug. Actually, you don't even need the bypass to kill CAGS. Just pulling the wire from the tranny and covering the connector with electrical tape does basically the same thing. The upshift light just stays on.
If you look thru the FSM or just about any repair manual it says to disconnect the battery before doing most any work. At our shop, the techs usually don't disconnect the battery unless it's an engine removal.
