I am seeing C4s that were equipped with a TPI fuel injection system using what seems to be an LT1 intake yet still using a standard HEI distributer. I am seeing this right, can you run LT1 top end parts (heads, intake) on a TPI motor and keep the HEI distributer?
you can convert an LT-1 intake for use on L98s. it needs the hole drilled for the distributor in the back and the EGR boss tends to be milled down for HEI cap fitment. additionally holes need to be drilled in the intake at the coolant ports of the head (at least 2) and put in NPT nipples and run hoses from those nipples to a remote thermostat. Finally the bolt pattern will need to be adjusted.
You can't run LT-1 heads on L98s.
I bought a preconverted one and love it, except for the mess of hoses in the engine bay lol, one day I'll go to a miniram.
Wow, there is more to it then I thought. I have built LSx but know little about TPI and LTx.
So your answers lead me to my next question, is all the modding work worth it, or are you just as well to run like a Lingenfelter/Accell supper ram intake system?
Miniram?
It has been done.
You have to weld and redrill the coolant holes in the head surface as well as the mods above to get coolant out and fit dist.
fair enough but it seems kind of pointless to rework reverse flow heads to normal flow when that was the selling point of the LT-1 heads in the first place and the 118(?) heads had the same port design anyways :P
I've also heard a lot of good things from the super ram crowd in terms of breathing better at higher rpms than the stock TPI while maintaining the low end torque.
Another option is a modified Holley Stealth Ram (HSR), in it's original form it doesnt clear the hood but with some modifications it can fit. Alternatively you can buy HSRs pre modified but I forget where from.
If you're on a budget the LT1 modifications are worth it but the little things added up to the point where I would have been better off with a used miniram.
