I need LS1 advice!

if your transmission is 4l6e you don't have to change it .
I used to drive a LS1 for 6 years . The engine is damn good and make decent power with cam only . But if you like C5s , you can sell your C4 and invest some money to buy a C5 .
And as far as keeping the trans:
If you wanted to stay auto, I would sell your current LT1 and trans as a package, and buy an LS1 with the 4L60-E still on it (out of am f-body with related wiring harness/computer). The combos are usually cheap.
That said, if you want a street car w all the creature comforts this may not be a "budget" swap. It is far from impossible but more difficult and costly than you may realize.
More budget friendly options would be:
1- Upgrade the LT1 to an LT4 (head/cam package).
2- Stroker kit (plus above for even better results).
3- Sell the 92 and upgrade to a C5 (they are getting cheap, and the money spent on a swap may get you there). Plus, modded cars don't resell for what you have in them. If you upgrade to a C5 you will have more resell value if you need/want to change again.
I am in the process of an LS1 swap. My car however, will be a street legal, but mostly track car. I did not have to deal w making the dash work, keeping the A/C or even heat, etc. Even with all that, sometimes I wish I had just picked up a high mile C5...
I've also come to the realization, I will likely lose $ if I ever sell it.
In my mind, this project is best for the following scenarios:
1- You love your C4 (sentimental value or just outstanding condition) and do not want a C5
2- Just want to take on the challenge
3- Track car/hot rod (stripped down, light, and built for speed)
4- You want obscene power (not stock)
Options 1 and 4 would be for a nice C4, like I assume you have. Options 2 and 3 would be better with a well worn (cheap) C4.
